Dark lenses through the dust: parallax microlensing events in the VVV

چکیده

ABSTRACT We use near-infrared photometry and astrometry from the VISTA Variables in Via Lactea (VVV) survey to analyse microlensing events containing annual parallax information. These are located highly extincted low-latitude regions of Galactic bulge typically off-limits optical surveys. fit a catalogue 1959 previously found VVV extract 21 candidates. The fitting is done using nested sampling automatically characterize multimodal degenerate posterior distributions signal. compute probability density lens mass-distance source proper motion model disc deflectors. By comparing expected flux main sequence baseline magnitude blending parameter, we identify four candidates which have >50 per cent that dark. strongest candidate corresponds nearby (≈0.78 kpc), medium-mass ($1.46^{+1.13}_{-0.71} \ M_{\odot }$) dark remnant as lens. In next strongest, at heliocentric distance ≈5.3 kpc. It with mass $1.63^{+1.15}_{-0.70} }$. The Nature of Parallax Microlensing Events Towards the Galactic Bulge

Perhaps as many as 30 parallax microlensing events are known, thanks to the efforts of the MACHO, OGLE, EROS and MOA experiments monitoring the bulge. Using Galactic models, we construct mock catalogues of microlensing light curves towards the bulge, allowing for the uneven sampling and observational error bars of the OGLE-II experiment. As a working definition of a parallax event, we require t...

Halo structure, masses of dark objects and parallax microlensing

We study the use of parallax microlensing to separate the effects of the mass function of dark massive halo objects (MHOs or ‘machos’) on the one hand and their spatial distribution and kinematics on the other. This disentanglement is supposed to allow a much better determination of the two than could be achieved entirely on the basis of the durations of events. We restrict our treatment to the...

Parallax Microlensing Events in the OGLE II Database Toward the Galactic Bulge

We present a systematic search for parallax microlensing events among a total of 512 microlensing candidates in the OGLE II database for the 1997-1999 seasons. We fit each microlensing candidate with both the standard microlensing model and also a parallax model that accounts for the Earth’s motion around the Sun. We then search for the parallax signature by comparing the χ of the standard and ...

Rates for Parallax-Shifted Microlensing Events from Ground-Based Observations of the Galactic Bulge

The parallax effect in ground-based microlensing (ML) observations consists of a distortion to the standard ML light curve arising from the Earth’s orbital motion. This can be used to partially remove the degeneracy among the system parameters in the event timescale, t0. In most cases, the resolution in current ML surveys is not accurate enough to observe this effect, but parallax could conceiv...

Microlensing Parallax for Observers in Heliocentric Motion

Motivated by the ongoing Spitzer observational campaign, and the forecoming K2 one, we revisit, working in an heliocentric reference frame, the geometrical foundation for the analysis of the microlensing parallax, as measured with the simultaneous observation of the same microlensing event from two observers with relative distance of order AU. For the case of observers at rest we discuss the we...
